Industry Leadership Roles Reinforce Ongoing Commitment to Advancing
Quality, Accessibility and Affordability in Online Education
CHARLES TOWN, W.Va., Oct 12, 2010 (BUSINESS WIRE) --
American Public University System (APUS) today announced that senior
faculty and executive staff are participating in several upcoming
industry conferences and educational organizations focused on the
pursuit of excellence in online education. The announcement follows
APUS's recent recognition by the Sloan Consortium for an Effective
Practice Award.
Ongoing engagement with industry peers supports the university's core
mission to provide quality distance learning programs to adult learners,
according to President and CEO Dr. Wallace E. Boston. "In order to
accomplish this goal, we continually strive to create the most
interactive, effective learning environment for our students," he said.
"This enables us to effectively meet our students' diverse educational
goals by expanding access to affordable, quality education."
Dr. Boston will be joined by APUS Senior VP and Academic DeanDr.
Karan Powell and APUS Director of Course Design Dr. Phil Ice to
collaboratively present three concurrent sessions at the upcoming E-Learn
conference, October 18-22 at the Wyndham Orlando Resort in Orlando, Fla.
E-Learn provides a forum for government, healthcare, education, and
business professionals to discuss the latest research, development,
applications, issues, and strategies, to explore new technologies, and
to identify solutions for today's challenges related to online learning.
The sessions include:
- "Comprehensive Assessment of Student Retention in Online Learning
Environments"
- "Optimizing Faculty Workload and Learning Effectiveness"
- "The 21st Century University: A Model for Integrating Best
Practices in Distributed Learning Environments"

"We are committed to sharing our best practices and lessons learned with
