CHARLES TOWN, W.Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 4, 2009--
American
Public University System (APUS) – an online university system that
serves more than 50,000 working adults worldwide – has announced Sharon
van Wyk, PhD, as Chief Operations Officer. In this role, she will be
responsible for leading the university’s efforts in student services,
human resources and information technology.

grows and we continue to fulfill our mission to expand access to

Dr. van Wyk recently served as the Vice President of Process Excellence,
Infrastructure & Online Customer Support at Intuit, a leading
international provider of business and financial management solutions,
with $3.1 billion in revenue.
Prior to her role at Intuit, Dr. van Wyk served as Vice President
of Process Excellence and New Market Development for the Employee
Benefits Group of GE Financial, as well as other leadership
positions within GE Capital. She was a founding member of the
change management practice at Accenture, the first and largest of
the “Big 6” change management practices. She was also an adjunct
professor for the Executive MBA program at the University of
Connecticut Business School.
In addition to wide-ranging leadership experience, Dr. van Wyk possesses
several process improvement certifications, including Master Black Belt,
Certified Six Sigma Instructor. She has experience launching Lean, Agile
and Scrum.

Dr. van Wyk holds a PhD and an MS in Instructional Systems from Florida
State University. She received a B.S. in Communication from the
University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
