American Public University System Appoints Major Gen. (Ret.) Robert Nabors and Vice Admiral (Ret.) Ann Rondeau to Board of Trustees

Incoming Members Reinforce Core Mission of Educating Those Who Serve

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 20, 2012-- American Public University System (APUS) today announced the appointment of Major General (Ret.) Robert L. Nabors and Vice Admiral (Ret.) Ann E. Rondeau to its board of trustees. MG Nabors, an executive advisor to Booz Allen Hamilton, and VADM Rondeau replace retiring members Lieutenant General (Ret.) Julius Becton, Jr., and Lieutenant Colonel (Ret.) James H. Herhusky.

MG Nabors is a former senior VP for EDS U.S. Government Solutions and also served as commanding general for the US Army, Communications-Electronics Command, Ft. Monmouth NJ. In addition, he held several other senior leadership roles over a distinguished military and civilian career, including deputy commander of the White House Communications Agency. He holds more than 40 military awards and decorations and over 400 honorary awards, including the Distinguished Service Medal. He earned a BS in systems engineering from the Univ. of Arizona, an MS in systems management from the Univ. of Southern Calif. and served as a senior fellow at the Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University.

VADM Rondeau retired in April 2012 after 38 years of active-duty service in the US Navy, where she most recently served as president of the National Defense University, and, previously as the deputy commander of the US Transportation Command at Scott Air Force Base. She has served in leadership, staff and command assignments in a myriad of mission areas, from fleet operations and strategy and policy to training and education. She was selected as a White House Fellow, a Chief of Naval Operations Strategic Studies Group Fellow, and permanent member of the Council on Foreign Relations. She is a graduate of Eisenhower College, where she was selected by the Board of Trustees as "Most Distinguished Graduate" and received the Groben Award for Leadership.

Following his retirement from the Army after a nearly 40-year career, LTG Julius Becton, Jr., served as director of the Office of US Foreign Disaster Assistance in the Agency for International Development and as the third director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency. He then returned to Prairie View A & M College of Texas, his alma mater, as its fifth president, and his final civilian post was as CEO/Superintendent of public schools in the District of Columbia.

LTC Herhusky joined the APUS board in 2008 after serving the institution for 13 years in key leadership positions, including COO and executive VP for institutional advancement. He directed its accreditation efforts with both the Higher Learning Commission and the Distance Education and Training Council, after serving for several years on DETC's Business Standards Committee and receiving DETC's 2007 Distinguished Service Award. He previously served in the US Army as the G-1 of the 10th Mountain Division and adjutant general of the 21st Theater Army Area Command.
