APUS Vice President of Military Programs Elected President of the Council of Colleges and Military Educators

February 10, 2009

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 10, 2009-- James Sweizer, Vice President of Military Programs at American Public University System (APUS) (http://www.apus.edu), assumed the role of President of the Council of Colleges and Military Educators (CCME) at their annual symposium in Honolulu, Hawaii. CCME is the only national organization for professional military educators.

Sweizer was most recently President-Elect of the organization and sees positive things for the organization’s future. In an interview for the January/February 2009 issue of Military Advanced Education, Sweizer states, “My primary goal is to make CCME the premier meeting place for all of the services’ annual training and networking.” He also aims to encourage more persons to serve on the CCME board and refine the role of the CCME vice president as key liaisons with the communities they represent.

As Vice President of Military Programs at APUS, Sweizer oversees all military outreach activities and serves as the main liaison between the university and Department of Defense agencies. Sweizer served in the United States Air Force for over 33 years as an active duty member and civil servant before joining APUS. He has an extensive background in adult continuing education and served as the Chief of the Air Force’s Voluntary Education Program at the Pentagon for seven years.

Sweizer’s former Air Force colleague at the Pentagon and fellow member of the CCME executive board is confident he’ll be a terrific president. “Jim’s leadership is exactly what CCME needs as membership continues to grow and annual conferences become larger and more logistically complicated,” said John “JJ” Jones, Vice President of DoD Relations at University of Maryland University College (UMUC). “He’ll provide both the vision and the organizational structure to ensure CCME remains the premier organization for the military voluntary education community.’”

Sweizer holds an M.A. in Education from North Dakota State University and a B.A. in Psychology from Minot State University. He is a graduate of the Air War College non-resident program and Harvard University’s Institute for the Management of Lifelong Education.
