American Public Education to Announce First Quarter 2008 Financial Results on May 2, 2008

Extends Lockup Period through May 19, 2008

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 25, 2008--American Public Education, Inc. (NASDAQ: APEI) - parent company of online learning provider American Public University System, which operates through American Military University and American Public University - plans to release first quarter 2008 results prior to the opening of U.S. financial markets on May 2, 2008.

A live webcast of its first quarter 2008 conference call will be broadcast at 8:30 a.m. Eastern time on Friday, May 2, 2008. This call will be open to listeners who log in through the Company's investor relations website, www.AmericanPublicEducation.com. A replay of the live webcast will also be available starting approximately one hour after the conclusion of the live conference call. The replay will be archived and available to listeners for one year.

In connection with its initial public offering completed in November 2007, American Public Education and its executive officers, directors and certain stockholders agreed not to sell shares (aggregating a total of approximately 7.8 million shares), with certain exceptions, until the end of a lockup period ending May 6, 2008. However, as provided by the lockup agreements, the issuance of the Company's earnings will extend the lockup period. As a result, the shares subject to lockup agreements will become freely tradable in the public market beginning May 20, 2008, subject to certain extension as described in the prospectus for the initial public offering.
